Mission Statement:

  • Advocate for recreation on behalf of the residents of the town to the town’s board and leaders
  • Create and deliver programs to the community
  • Provide direction/scope for operation/maintenance of existing resources under Park and Rec’s jurisdiction or by agreement with other entities
  • Manage programs/use of recreational resources & plan for future resources to be under Park and Rec’s jurisdiction or by agreement with other entities
  • Follow best practices to address capacity issues
    • Optimize existing capacity
    • Find additional capacity even if less desirable
    • Plan for long term capacity acquisition

Charged with the direction of town park and recreational activities, the Park and Recreation Commission is made up of five members appointed to staggered three year terms. The commission oversees the organization and direction of the Town's recreational programs, maintenance & operation of the Town Beach and the playing fields, and the hiring of lifeguards and other safety personnel.
