Board of Health

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Board of Health is to assure all of Harvard's residents a safe and thriving community by:

  • Identifying and protecting residents from environmental hazards
  • Preventing the spread of diseases
  • Assuring safe water
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles 
  • Enforcing local, state, and national regulations as required by law 
  • Developing and enforcing local regulations when necessary

Message:  We are dedicated to serving Harvard and Harvard's residents.  Please contact the Board with questions or concerns, or if you need information or a referral on a public health issue.  Residents are welcome to attend our meetings.

What we do:  The Board of Health performs, on the local level, many important duties relative to the protection of public health, the control of disease, the promotion of sanitary living conditions, and the protection of the environment from damage and pollution.  

  • Air quality
  • Beaver permits
  • Disease reporting, investigation, and follow-up
  • Drinking water
  • Emergency management
  • Emergency readiness, planning, and collaboration with local and regional departments
  • Food safety
  • Hazardous and medical/biological waste
  • Health promotion and disease prevention
  • Nuisance control and noisome trades
  • Recreational camps for children
  • Recreational waters (i.e.. bathing beaches and swimming pools) 
  • Stable permits and manure management
  • Share communications from MA Department of Public Health (DPH) and the MA Emergency Management Agency (MEMA)
  • Solid waste management
  • Subsurface wastewater disposal systems
