Dog Licenses

A registered puppy is a happy puppy!

Dogs must be licensed each year, according to Massachusetts Law.

The Town Clerk's office registers dogs each year beginning in January.

To license your dog in person at the Town Clerk's office or by mail please provide the following:

  1. The Registration Form - CLICK HERE
  2. An unexpired Rabies Certificate showing Spay or Neuter status
  3. A certificate of spaying/neutering, if status is not shown on the rabies certificate
  4. The appropriate annual fee (and late fee if after April 16) 

Please send the application form and Rabies Certificate, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check with the correct fee (and late fee if after April 16) payable to the "Town of Harvard". Mail to the Office of the Town Clerk, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451. The license and dog tag will be returned to you by mail.

To license your dog online you will need the following:

  1. An unexpired Rabies Certificate showing Spay or Neuter status
  2. A certificate of spaying/neutering, if status is not shown on the Rabies Certificate
  3. The appropriate annual fee (and late fee if after April 16)

After April 16, 2019 a late fee of $15.00 per unlicensed dog will be added to the registration fee.

According to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140 Section 137 and Town of Harvard by-law, all dogs must be licensed annually, by April 1st (or 5 days after the annual rabies clinic, whichever is later). Puppies must be licensed at 6 months of age. New dogs and those belonging to new residents must be licensed within 30 days.  

   FEES:

  • Spayed Females: $15.00
  • Un-spayed Females: $25.00
  • Neutered Males: $15.00
  • Un-neutered Males: $25.00
  • 3 or 4 dogs: $45.00
  • 5 to 10 dogs: $65.00
  • over 10 dogs: $100.00
  • owner 70 years or over: NO CHARGE
  • Replacement Dog Tag: $2.00
